Judging Critique

Held in conjunction with the City of Birmingham Championship Show at Stoneleigh Park near Coventry, The Spanish Water Dog Club Open Show took place on Sunday 1st September 2019. Sponsored by Royal Canin, a total of 45 dogs made up the 50 entries within the main show. Additional classes were also held for Junior Handling, whereby the entrants were judged not on the dog, but on the capabilites of the handler in presenting the dog in the ring.

The open show also incorporated three extra Special Award Classes. These classes are specifically put on by the club, with the permission of the Kennel Club, in an endeavour to assist prospective judges to progress up the Judges List. It allows judges, newly qualified or seeking additional experience, the opportunity to examine and judge the Spanish Water Dog breed by gaining a captive audience of owners of the breed who are present at the show.

Best in Show was won by the Best Bitch and winner of the Post Graduate Bitch class, Sierrasalva's Regalo

Reserve Best in Show and best dog was won by Sh Ch Casper De Agua Salada

Best Puppy in show was taken by the Puppy Bitch winner Oh You Are Magic vom Hause Kristo of Goldfly (Imp)

Best Vetran in Show was awarded to Valentismo's Olli Dante from the Vetran Dog Class

Dare we say it ... ?

The SWDC is proud to be able to confirm our Open Show 2021, to be held in conjunction with the rescheduled National Dog Show in Stafford, on Thursday 23rd September. This coincides with Gundog day for the championship show.

Huge thanks go to our amazing Show Secretary, Carol Palumbo, who has had the unenviable task of having to cancel, rearrange and then cancel again, previous events in the show world for the SWDC, but now we hope that this one can happen!

EDIT - 11 AUG 2021

Following an announcement by Birmingham National Dog Show, we are pleased to advise that if your dog is entered only in a class at the Spanish Water Dog Club show and not the National Dog Show, a FREE removal pass will be issued to you by the Show Secretary, Carol Palumbo, on the day. Paper entries close 20th August and online entries close 3rd September.

ALL DOGS ENTERED IN THE SWD CLUB SHOW ONLY MUST HAVE A VALID REMOVAL PASS TO EXIT THE SHOWGROUND.

THOSE NOT ENTERED AT THE BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL DOG SHOW CAN COLLECT AN EXIT PASS FROM CAROL PALUMBO, SHOW SECRETARY, ON THE DAY.

As a club we endeavour to assist prospective judges to progress up the Judges Lists. We have been given permission by the Kennel Club to run “Special Awards” at our own shows. This allows the Judge to have a captive audience who will hopefully make a reasonable entry in support for them to go over and include in their judges CV. Please help support this years Special Awards Judge, Mrs Helen Gilroy by entering into this years Special Award classes. (please be aware that dogs must have been entered into one of the main show classes to be eligible to enter a Special Award Class)

Please can all holders of Open Show perpetual trophies please ensure the cups are returned to the Honorary Secretary prior to the start of the Show.
